Parenthood

I’ve always dreamt of being a mother, but I didn’t expect it this soon.

When I was 18 I got pregnant with my daughter. Telling my family was probably one of the hardest things I had to do. I told my mom first, she was the easiest to talk to. She was the most accepting and excited. My mother was exuberant for being a grandmother.

I had to tell my grandparents, since I had lived with them. Telling them was the hardest out of everyone. They were very dissapointed in me, they were dissapointed I dropped out of my first year of college due to the fact that I was pregnant. Even though they were dissapointed, they were still supportive.

Finally, I told my bestfriend, my backbone, my father. I was nervous, I could feel my hands sweating and my heart felt like a balloon at maximum capacity. “Just breathe”. I told myself over and over again. His first words “I already know what your going to tell me”. I had no words except for ” how did you know”. It turns out his ex-girlfriend of 12 years told him before I got the chance to. I asked him if he was dissapointed as expected he said yes, but also as expected he was very supportive.

The amount of stress that was released was a weight lifted off my chest. A few months passed by and everyone was grateful and accepting for this new bundle of joy.

My pregnancy went smooth, I didn’t have any weird “cravings”, I didn’t really get sick, and every doctors appointment went great.

Time went on and I have reached my last few weeks of pregnancy, I went for my last doctors appointment and my blood pressure was high so they thought there wasn’t any need for me to wait out the last week, so they sent me to Charlton.

The nurses, including my doctor, had decided to induce me. This was the longest, most painful process I ever had to do. It took a day and a half for me to start dialating. I couldn’t get any pain medicine until her heartbeat was back to normal. I couldn’t control my breathing therefore she wasn’t getting enough oxygen. They put an oxygen mask on me, and that helped me. eventually the nurses gave me pain medicine that lasted for an hour, and as I dialated to 3 cm, I was able to get the epidural. The epidural was my bestfriend. After a long 16 hours, i slept for 6 more. At 4:23 in the morning on November 8th,2017 Avery Rose was born.

After everything we have been fighting for, the fight was over, the greatest blessing was finally here. As soon as I laid my eyes on her, tears floated down my cheek, and I said ” happy birthday babygirl “.

Sample Memoir

“The Best Education In The World”

In this particular memoir, the author is from a fathers perspective. It explains how once you become a parent, your whole life changes for the better. The life you lived before is now non-existent.

He gives us many examples of parenthood, such as tucking them in at night and waking them up with goodmorning kisses, or how teaching them wrong from right, and having them learn responsibilty young. He explains making family time is very important, and how one parent should never think that they have to “watch” the kids while the other parent is not with them. It is your job as a parent to put forth your entire attention.

I can relate to this story in various ways. I believe that being a parent is an amazing feeling, the best i’ve felt in a long time, but it has its struggles. You learn to always put someone else before you and give them everything they need. I believe in everything he said, like making homeade pancakes from scratch on a saturday morning. I believe that quality time is a main factor into keeping a family humble.

I got alot of great ideas reading this story and I got to compare what I do for my daughter with what he does for his kids. I can’t wait to put our ideas together and write about them.

Short Scene

As she sat there on the white chair in her backyard, her head towards the sky, the rays of the sun soaking into her skin. She absorbed all the happiness and the love from the morning skies. The weather was hot, humid, and sweaty. She enjoyed seeing the clouds cover the sun for a second, the trees singing with the wind. She was happy, and in that moment she was living.

“Show Don’t Tell”

  1. My hometown was a wonderful place to grow up, at night all you could hear was the trees swaying through the wind, the birds chirping in the morning, and a quiet road. It was peaceful, its was calming, it was wonderful.
  2. Laci had her hair dyed all black with purple at the ends, she always wore dark colored clothing, and chokers for an accessory, her dark makeup extenuated her pale skin.
  3. Mr. Brown always drowned his students with long essays, reading assignments, and textbook work. He always made every student silent, if you even talked to your friend on the side of you about the homework you did last night, he would give you a detention. Everyone was livid that they had to take his class.
  4. The room, my room, is very personalized. I had lights hanging from one wall wrapped around the ceiling connecting to the opposite side. I had a tapestry hanging on the wall behind my bed. The room was white, with gold accent colors. Everything looked clean and crisp.

introduction

I remember when I was young, I had an interest in reading autobiographies as well as non-fiction literature. I loved the history and stories that authors told. Overtime I was introduced to writing. Writing became my hobby. I began to capture every moment with a pen and piece of paper.

When I would write, everything I thought of, would just go straight to paper. There wasn’t any rules, or a specific format/layout. As time grew, I got more and more interested in writing poetry and short stories. In order for these to make sense and really make a reader want to read more I had to reread, and make sure that everything made sense and certain things stood out.

I do believe that following certain “rules” will help you succeed as a writer overall.

For example, in “The Little Green Ball” the author explains how different the audience will react to a certain topic. Every person has a different way of imagining words. When you hear a little green ball what do you think of? My first response was a tennis ball, but I had asked my friend the same question and she thought of a bouncy ball. Therefore giving more elaborate details could make a reader feel like he/she is there with you.

Another example is “Lost Money and Thank You Notes”. This example is teaching us to make sure we know exactly who our audience is before we start reading/writing. This is crucial, simply because you don’t want to be asking certain things or reaching certain topics if the audience is younger.

The final example is to keep your reader wanting more. This is important for any author. I would always add suspense to my stories, as well as making sure i’m asking questions to get the reader’s mind to work.

I use all of these “rules” in my writing and I found that it became more of an automatic thing for me and helped me succeed in high expectations.
